Acrylic Nails?

Is there a really likely chance of me getting a disease from acrylic nails?

The only person i know that has ever gotten a disease from this is my aunt who now has to put medicine on her nails every single day for the rest of her life- which got my mom FREAKED OUT about it and she says she wont let me get acrylics for prom...or at all until i move out.

i really dont think there is a likelihood of me getting any type of disease or fungus on my nails. i dont know anyone besides my aunt that this has happened to.

how do i convince my mom that these are basically completely harmless and shes just being paranoid??Acrylic Nails?
dude, EVERYONE has them.

we just saw Katie with them today at lunch, they looked fine!

wait, those were acrylic, right? I think you should get them like that.

anyway, yeah just tell your mom how everyone gets them, and maybe promise that you'll take them right off after prom or something. idk. you can work on her. =]Acrylic Nails?
you must go to a safe and clean place. but just make sure that when you do get the acrylic nails that you take care of them, don't let water get in between your nails and the acrylic. you should ask your aunt about how exactly she got the fungus and then speak to your mom
i've read that you can in fact get a disease from acyrlic nails, Instead of getting Acrylic, get Crystal. It's lighter and feels much better and most importantly it's SAFER

Hop I helped~
I don't think there's a chance of you getting a disease!! I know a lot of people that get acrylic nails and they've never gotten a disease...
i can but thats like a 1 mil chance!
You can get a fungi and disease from them, especially if they start to get loose and you get any moisture under them... and it's quite common with the acrylics but most don't notice it because they leave them on for so long.

Yes, they will completely screw up your real nail beds... especially when you go to take them off... It will take a few months to get your real nails back to a healthy state if not a full year or so.
I've had acrylics off and on for years. I actually just had them taken on a couple of weeks ago. Yes they do mess your nails up a bit when you remove them. You will have ridges in your nails where they have filed. But after time, that grows out. But they will look bad for a while. I'm in that stage now.

I don't care what anyone says...having acrylic nails will not permanently make your nails weaker. They go back to their original state after they grow out.

Regarding the fungus/infection. If you don't take care of your nails, yes you can get an infection. And if not found early enough and/or treated, it can be a forever thing. Basically, if you break a nail, don't let it sit there lifting or loose because if water gets underneith and with the right conditions, you may get a fungus. And if the fungus gets bad, antibiodics are needed.
