Gel or acrylic nails? which are better?

gel nails! They are stronger and just look really elegant:)

Pros of Acrylic Nails

If you break an acrylic nail you can almost always fix it temporarily and rather easily yourself.

Acrylics are very strong. When done correctly and good nail care is practiced, they can last a long time. They鈥檙e robust!

Pros of Gel Nails

Gel nails often look more natural and glossy than other types of cosmetic nails.

Gel nail mixtures are odorless.

There is less filing involved during the application process.

Cons of Acrylic Nails

They can damage your real nails in a harsher manner than gel nails can.

Acrylics can look fake instead of natural and they can look even worse when done incorrectly.

It can be hard to grow out acrylic nails.

Cons of Gel Nails

They don鈥檛 last as long and are less durable than acrylic, even though they tend to cost more.

Gel nails are harder to do yourself if you like to do home manicures.

It鈥檚 been noted that nail polish won鈥檛 stick to the gel finish as well as it does to an acrylic finish.

If a gel nail breaks, you may be in for some trouble. It can sometimes be more of a shatter effect than a clean break, so self-fixing a break is not usually an option. You鈥檒l need to make an appointment right away with your manicurist. Sometimes they do break cleanly; basic nail glue could be used in that case.

Gel nails almost always need to be filed off. You can鈥檛 just soak them awayGel or acrylic nails? which are better?

However they are both really bad for the real nail underneath!

  • Gel vs. Acrylic nails?

I'm about to go get my nails done. But i was wondering what one looks better. Gel nails or Acrylic nailsGel vs. Acrylic nails?
Get the acrylic. They look very natural and are really pretty.Gel vs. Acrylic nails?
I think Acrylic nails look really pretty, but if it isnt for something special... just get the gel ones done, they look nautral.
Gel look better, in my opinion anyways! They're more convienent to!
I have had both gel and acrylic and I found the gel nails looked better. But I believe that the skill of the nail technician is the decisive factor not the product itself.

Bear in mind that gel is more difficult to remove. You will need to file them off while with acrylics you can soak them off.

    Gel or Acrylic Nails ?

I am a beginner at getting my nails done. I normally just grow them out but I have been thinking about getting them done and keeping them up.

    Which is best?

Which of the two last the longest?

    Which is more expensive?

How do they do each of them?

    Thanks for any info

    Gel or Acrylic Nails ?
acrylic are better in my opinion i think they look better and they last longer and they are a bit cheaper and not all nail salons do gel also depending on where you go they may not be verry good at gel because they do a lot mor acrylic set than they do gelGel or Acrylic Nails ?
I am telling you now..... acrylic ruined my nails for a long time..... I think its best to go with your natural nails. You have to spend alot of money all the time to get them redone..... its your decision.
acrylic looks better lasts longer and in my opinion they are easier to maintain

    Question about Acrylic Nails.?

I had my nails professionally done a couple days ago. The color has already started to chip and i was wondering if i could use nail polish remover and repaint them myself.Question about Acrylic Nails.?
If you are overly concerned about damaging your artificial nails buy some Acetone free nail polish remover, and you will be fine to remover the chipped polish and repaint them yourself.

On a side note acrylic nails dont cause nail fungus, lack of care and hygiene from all involved cause most of the problems that some people can have, make sure you see a Qualified (ask to see their certificates) technician. You will pay more, but it's worth it in the long run.Question about Acrylic Nails.?
nail polish remover makes the nails weak so bad idea you can go get them re done and when you do once you get home go back over them with clear coat that also works if you got airbrush done
sure you can. But i heard that those kind of acrylic nails can give you fungus, my friends mom had to get surgery on her finger because of them...
    Yeah thats absouletly fine!

I do that all the time!

    Getting off Acrylic nails???

Can you get the acylics off with just regular nail polish remover? I understand the process, with the soaking and stuff, but the only thing I have is regular nail polish remover.

    ThanksGetting off Acrylic nails???
You can go to Sally Beauty Supply and buy pure acetone. You will then have to soak your nails in it until they are soft enought to scrape off a bit at a time with an orange wood stick.Don't try to peel them off because they can take layers of your nail with them and it hurts and damages your nailbeds.Good luck.Getting off Acrylic nails???
Go to the place you got them done and have them take it off.

    Please answer my question!!

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>
you need to look on the nailpolish remover bottle and make sure it HAS acetone... other wise it will not come off... good luck :)
it will probably take a really long time if you arent using straight acetone.

    Help with Acrylic nails!?

Okay so I got tips yesterday afternoon and I need to take a showerr today but i'm afraid that they are going to fall off because of the hot water... am I right?

help please and thank youu. :].Help with Acrylic nails!?
You are correct. Don't shower for as long as you have the tips on. If you absolutely HAVE to shower, then make sure it is ice cold. You don't want to lose the money you spent on those nails to something like a warm shower. Good luck.Help with Acrylic nails!?
    they def. wont fall off.

they will never just fall offf unless it breaks.

    youre good to go

    HELP!!! On acrylic nails?!?

Ok so i got my nails done on Wednesday and i got acrylics. Right now, my cuticles are coming in and the acrylic stuff or whatever is starting to get like air bubbles or something. Anyway, I'm in Mexico, and I don't know if i should keep them that way, or if i should get a fill... I just really don't want them to turn out bad because my quinceanera is on Saturday and i don't want to mess them up.HELP!!! On acrylic nails?!?
I don't think you should be getting air bubbles but I know what you mean. Yeah, you should be fine in Mexico. I'm sure they will be fine with your nails. A lot of younger Mexican women seem to have them so they should know how to do them. Maybe ask a girl who has them from there where she got them done or where a good place to get them is and you should be okay!

  • Can you re-use acrylic nails?

or at least is there a way to get the glue off of them to re apply them. I could use any advice about applying as well....help!Can you re-use acrylic nails?
It's hard. The glue is some pretty heavy duty stuff, so basically, NOTHING gets it off except scraping it with something sharp, and that can damage the nail. Nail polish remover takes the finish off (but not the glue) so they aren't shiny anymore. It's really not worth the stress of trying to reapply them. Plus bacteria and stuff builds up underneath. They're really meant to be a one-time thing.

I recommend ';Broadway'; brand nails from CVS. ';Sporty'; nails (average, no designs or colors but you can paint them yourself) are only $4.99. The fancy nails (sequins and designs) are like, $5.99 I think. They're good nails that hold up, and they're pretty cheap compared to going to a nail salon and they look just as nice. (PS: The ones that say they are ';glass'; aren't really glass, they just look it, they still hold up very well).

As for applying them, it's kind of an ';acquired skill';... It takes practice. Here's what I do whenever I put them on.

1.Take out the nails you want to use and match them up to your real nail for the perfect fit. You can use a nail file or nail clippers to make them the right shape/length.

    2. Lay out all the nails in the order you're going to put them on.

    3. Only poke a very tiny hole in the glue bottle, you don't want the glue coming out too fast.

    4. Forget that stupid wooden stick thing that comes with the nails to spread the glue, it doesn't work very well, just spread the glue around with the tip of the glue bottle.

    5. Take your time and spread a thin layer of glue on your WHOLE (real) fingernail. It dries quick, so you can't wait too long to grab the right nail and stick it on. Focus on only one nail at a time from gluing it until it's dry.

    6. Quickly stick the appropriate fake nail onto your real nail and press down hard for about 5 seconds .

    7. Once the nail starts sticking on it's own, push your nail against the edge of a table and roll it back and forth slowly (pressing the fake nail on really hard). This makes them stick much better plus gets rid of air bubbles since they look bad under clear (or almost clear) nails.

    8. You can put a coat of clear polish on top if you want to make them really shiny. This is also a good idea if you have nails with the sequins or designs on them, the nail polish helps keep them from falling off or getting chipped.

    9. Avoid using your nails as much as possible for a couple hours (ie, don't open any soda cans or scratch anything).

Just don't use acrylic nails too much, the glue really dries out your nails, and the glue also pulls off layers of the nails every time you take them off. You shouldn't wear them for more than a week at a time because bacteria and moisture builds up underneath making your nails extremely brittle. Try to wait at least a week or two before applying new ones. Try Sally Hansen ';Maximum Growth'; (clearish pink) or Sally Hansen ';No More Breaks'; (clearish green) in between using nails to make them stronger and healthier. Can you re-use acrylic nails?
    No,

Acrylic nails are a one use only deal. You'd have to get new ones. The glue should come off with nail polish remover.

    Gel / Acrylic Nails?

I want to get some false nails put on soon. The cost doesn't matter but they can't be shiny as in school I will be made to take them off. Is there any kind of nails that have a matt finish and look like natural nails something like gel or acrylic ones but not painted or glossy. PLEASE HELP!!!!Gel / Acrylic Nails?
Yes, this can be done. Its just a matter of the technician using the right products on your nails, whether its gel or acrylic.

Neither gel, or acrylic products damage, or ruin your natural nails. However, a bad nail tech can easily ruin your nails. Also, use of poor quality products can also damage your nails, especially those which contain MMA. For some useful information about MMA, I highly recommend anyone who gets their nails done at a a salon to read the following article. It has some very useful information in it, and the information comes from reliable, and trusted sources in the nail industry:

    http://www.beautytech.info/articles/mma_鈥?/a>

Its always best to have your nails done at a reputable salon which uses the highest quality products. Also, make sure that the nail techs are properly, and currently, licensed. Also be sure that they are both experienced, and well trained in the field of nails.

There is a company called Creatice Nail Design which manufactures a very high quality line of both acrylics and gels products that many professionals use. It is a top of the line product, and none of their products contain MMA. Below is a link to their website where you will be able to locate salon in your area which uses these products. An added benefit of going to one of the salons listed on the CND site is that they will all have technicians who are not only skilled, and licensed as well, but they have also been through extensive training by the company prior to their being listed on this site. Give it a try, I definitely recommend it for anyone wishing to have a proper job done on your nails without damage being done to them, as so often happens in salons with unqualified techs:

    Good luck!Gel / Acrylic Nails?
Just go to a nail salon in your town and tell them they cant be shiny because of school and they should know what to do to make them look just as nice if they were shiny...they are shiny because they either put a jel or clear nail polish on top...just tell them you dont want that stuff on top and that they need to look as natural as possible...i'm sure they know of some sort of trick they can do...
Find a reputable salon first of all. Don't go to those budget nail salons. They ruin your nails.

Gel or acrylic can be finished with a matte finish. I would just buff the nail and not put anything else on top. That would give it the natural look you are looking for.
They ruin your nails. But a nail salon will know what to give you when you explain.
I would go for gel, I have had both and found that acrylic ruined my nail bed for months whereas gel left the nail bed ok. My practioner can put matt gel on all you need to do is ask.
Don't get fake nails done. They ruin your nails. Once they come off so does half of the layers of your nails. They look really rough after.
Just ask for nail tips that are blended in and have no gel or acrylic on them, because this will look like your natural nail..

    For acrylic nails..........?

what is the difference between acetone and monomer to use with the acrylic powder? For acrylic nails..........?
Alrighty a bit of polymer chemistry for ya.

Acetone is a ketone and is two methyl groups flanking a central carbonyl group; it is an organic solvent and is not a polymer, nor can it be made into one.

The PMMA or polyethylmethylmethacrylate (powder) is a polymer powder which means ';many'; So these compound have a lot of links in their chains. The links here are ethymethylmethacrylate and they are connected in chains, ';poly'; chains over various lengths. Like polyethylene glycol. It is ethylene glycol linked over and over in various lengths. The longer the length the more rigid the PEG.

The monomer, is a liquid of a single headed polymer. When the monomer and powder polymer come together, cross linking occurs between the original PMMA crystals via the monomer solution and it makes it into a gel which is then shaped. Once the gel is shaped it is dried and becomes very hard and durable due to the crosslinking of the bonds between the polymer chains. Crosslinking causes the bonds to form a net like structure between the molecules.

I cracked an acrylic nail what do i do ?

I cracked it where it tore my real nail and is bleeding underneath the acrylic and hurts like hell . do i take the nail off or have it repaird ?I cracked an acrylic nail what do i do ?
no, dont take it off, it will require acetone (which would burn like hell on your skin opening) or it would require yanking the artificial nail off which will just tear you more. wash the finger with soap and water, dry it WELL, put a tiny bit, not too much, neosporin or other antibiotic ointment on the area and wrap it up well with 1-2 bandaids, secure it down well so it doesnt catch. do this for a few days until the area is completely healed then you can safely go to the salon to have it fixed.I cracked an acrylic nail what do i do ?
Oh god! I did this before and it DID hurt like hell. DO NOT get it taken off. What I did was rinse it out (although if its bleeding alot that should be sufficient for cleansing, as the blood will be pushing any germs outwards) and then use wound glue on it. Im sure you can buy that in any Albertsons or drug store. Glue that sucker closed...and wait until it grows out to the end and is healed before having anyone try to fix that nail or repaint it.

Also, you can use superglue if you cant find any wound glue. Emergency Rooms use superglue for things like that too....almost the same ingredients...
    GLUE IT
    i hate that.

    i know how it feels.

wait a couple days and it will stop hurting.

    then get it repaired

    Acrylic Nails vs. Kiss Nails?

    it depends .

acrylic nails stay on for about a month %26amp; kiss nails stay on for a couple days . also , acrylic would probably be straighter on your nail because theyre done professionally %26amp; kiss nails you buy %26amp; put them on yourself , so unless you want to be sitting there forever trying to make them perfectly straight , id say acrylic.Acrylic Nails vs. Kiss Nails?
It depends on how long you want them to stay on. If you want them to stay on for a long time then i would reccomend acrylic. They stay on from about 3-4 weeks if you take good care of them. But the only bad thing with acrylic is that it hurts more then kiss, and acrylic cost more around $30. Hope this helped.Acrylic Nails vs. Kiss Nails?
    Acrylic Nails all the way!

Kiss Nails, will break off and they will hurt so much worse than acrylics.

    I've tried them both.
    Acrylic Nails

Should I let me eleven year old daughter get acrylic nails? She says lots of girls her age have them.?

For one thing, she is too young to have them. Children need to be told no even if their friends have them. My fingernails are disfigured now from wearing them for 5 years. I do not recommend getting them to anyone. What will you say when she wants her belly button pierced at 12, birth control pills at 13 just because all her friends are doing it. Teach her some limits.Should I let me eleven year old daughter get acrylic nails? She says lots of girls her age have them.?
She is telling fibs! When I was eleven I was biting my nails and so were many others.

Don't pressurise her to become a tart as so many other parents are. Let her grow up when she's ready and not before.Should I let me eleven year old daughter get acrylic nails? She says lots of girls her age have them.?
If all the girls her age were jumping off cliffs you'd let her do it too?

    No, of course you wouldn't.

Acrylic nails do weaken the natural nail, they hurt like anything if you catch them because they don't break they just pull at the skin. A young girl like that should be quite active and acrylic nails effect what sort of activities you can do and how well you can do them.
No, I think it's too much on an eleven year old.

You could let her grow her own nails and teach her how to do french manicures on them, and get her an airbrush nail kit for Christmas - they come with lots of designs and finishes - and just clean off with normal nail polish remover. Provides hours of fun for her and her friends, and teaches her how to care for her nails also.
Crazy to spend the money on them for a little girl who probably won't take care of them like an older girl would. Besides money, they grow up so fast, why give them one more way to 'look' older, right? I wouldn't do it, but thats my opinion.
She is a child, and artificial nails are for grown ups! ';Just because all the other girls have them'; is no excuse. Besides, how do you know for sure all the other girls have them? the ';But everyone else has them'; is the classic excuse used by kids to get someting done.
Please tell me your kidding??? If she said all her friends were jumping off cliffs would you let her do that too? I work in school office and I can tell you I have not seen one child with acrylic nails. Be a parent not a friend.
they wont damage her nails as such, but when they are removed or fall off, the nails are very tender and sore and she wont be able to do some things she enjoys as her nails will be brittle. i wanted false nails ever since i was 6, but my mum made me wait until i was 16. i think they are too grown for young girls, and can make them appear too grown up for their age. they need to have a proper childhood, without false nails, but thats just my opinion, its your decision to make.
I mean your the parent if you think she should have them, then get them if not then she will just have to wait till she's older. Or you can get the fake ones from the store lol
I vote no. They damage your nails real bad. plus this feeds into the whole everyone's doing it arguement. ';mom can i wear a mini skirt, everyone else is'; ';mom can I stay up til midnight everyone e;se is.'; NO way. plus i would ask ';who is a lot of girls.'; If you think on your own that it is ok, then i would ask her ';How are YOU going to pay for it?'; Make her earn the money. Don't just give her an allowance. those things are expensive to maintain. I say no until High school.
i wouldn't let her get them if i were you
It depends on you really. Not everyones children are the same at 11. And if you got her it as a one-off, like a christmas present or something then it's not going to damage her nails.

I used to get acrylics quite often but eventually came to the conclusion that yes they do look nice for a while, but they can be hard to keep clean, and will look scabby if you can't get an appointment with the nail technician to get them filled in regulary. It is also quite expensive to keep them up. Maybe not for an adult whose job requires good presentation, but for an 11 year old child yes.

Overall I don't see a problem with it, however I would keep it as a treat... not a regular thing.
    not a flaming chance!

let her be 7 but if its pampering she wants most nail bars do child manicures which result in much the same look without the nails.
I think though. It is just a little step, but make sure she is paying for them. Because she will treat them better when shy realize how expensive good ones really are.
    You are kidding, right?
NO............don't let your daughter grow too fast..I'm 23 and i'm a mom of 2 kids.Happily married and love my life, but now i think i grew up too fast and i missed out on so much....It's fun to be a kid..she's just being pressured but the little girls with the fake nails are going to be the ones pushing baby strollers in high school....NO,please NO!
NO..... sadly or youth is growing far to quickly. as a compromise take her to for a manicure.
    In my opinion, NO.

    1. you have to keep them up.

    2. It ruines the nail underneath, makes them very weak

    3. she is to young, you dont want her to grow up faster than she needs to

    4. it's just a stage the other girls are going through and will end up going out of style in a month or so, so just tell her no

    5. it's meant for teenagers or older
they can get pricy cause you have to get them filled as soon as your nails grow out. they can damage your nails also, if she picks them and doesn't wait to soak them off you can rip your nails up bad.

You also can get a fungus(happened to me) it makes your nails look horrible. there are also lots of other diseases you can get from nail salons even if there equipment is clean. Then you have to take antibiotics etc. ( believe me I worked in a salon for years.)

I would wait till Highschool.Plus they harbor lots of germs during cold and flu season if you don't clean under them well. And if they start to pull up from the top dirt and stuff gets caught underneath them. As a mother I would say no, and try to redirect her into another direction. maybe manicure stuff she can use at home. parifin dip for home.

I'm sure she will be mad, but its for her health.
I wouldnt because sometime these nails can damage youre perment nail. Why do kids want to grow up so fast?
NO WAY!!! She'd like you to believe that many other girls her age do, but I doubt that.

Time enough for that later on. Like, maybe 17 or 18. She needs to be a kid yet for a while.
sorry, i say NO! limits are limits and they need to learn that. plus.....they really can cause damage.....trust me, i know!
    i wouldn't n if she did neways there would b a *** stomping
Whatever you can afford at this point in time against your 401K, you have 7 more years to go, before you can teach her what REAL life is about!
No! Your daughter is how old?

If you love your daughter and care for her dearly, I think you should teach her the importance of good taste and that having long finger nails doesn't make you a better person. Personally I think that acrylic nails are for grown ups.

Who's going to foot the bill?

Treat your girl to a girly night, just you and her. You can manicure and paint each others nails. That's so much fun.

Tell her that just because other girls of her age have them, doesn't necessarily mean she has to have them.

I used to use this phrase when I wanted a certain kind of mini skirt in the 80's, and I was lying. Non of my friends had it.
I would do it for her as long as they weren't to long. Now the downside is there expensive to keep up
    sure!

    it will not hurt her

    she will enjoy it

lots of kids even her age get them done

    do it with her

make it a mother/daughter day out

    go out to lunch afterwards
I think so. It's not like a huge step. Lots of girls like to do stuff like that with their nails
I would, but i would make her work for them..get her nails done for her once and tell her if she wants to keep getting them filled then give her chores or something to earn keeping her nails being filled..it sounds weird but its what my mom did for me when i was that age and boy did i want them filled everytime and i knew i had to keep up with my grades and chores or whatever to get them..
yea! it's not that big of a deal. just go to the drug store and get some for her. they have lots of diffrent types and desings. they may also have little gem stick ons to put on them ;) .
i would. it's not like it's a tatto or something permenant. if she was my daughter i would go with her and make it a mother daughter date.

    Acrylic Nails [tips] ..?

i have on acrylics and there's glitter paint on top.

can i use polish remover to take off the glitter without messing up the acrylics ?

the glitter paint is peeling and it looks weird, lol.Acrylic Nails [tips] ..?
I don't kno for sure if it would mess up the acrylic on your nails but I wouldn't take any chances so I would go back to the nail salon and ask them to remove... They shouldn't charge very much but if they do it should be the same as the repair price.

Do guys like acrylic nails on girls?

most of my friends have acrylic nails, I just don't see the attraction. I would like to hear from guys, do you like women with acrylic nails more than a woman with short natural manacured nails.Do guys like acrylic nails on girls?
    I don't

and I don't like makeup either.Do guys like acrylic nails on girls?
Most guys really don't care one way or the other, I know they wouldn't want to pay for them every two weeks for a ';fill';. They just want someone to scratch their back. lol
I've been looking at girls for over 40 years and I can assure you that is one of the last things a guy looks at on a girl. Do whatever you like girl, and don't worry about what anybody else thinks. To thine own self be true!
I find them to be gross. Especially the ones that are talons and really long. EWWWWW
well i think that they are pretty sometimes but from my experiance they mess up your real nail bad and it takes a long time to get them straight my husband thinks real nails look better i grow my own and they are prettier then acrylic and i dont have to worry about fill ins , but i have cut mine and got acrylics and they just messed my real ones up
It's a matter of personal tastes, and will vary from one person to the next. I, for one, couldn't say yes or no, because I've never paid enough attention to a woman's fingernails to even know if they were ';natural'; or ';acrylic';. Everyone has their own tastes, including the woman with the nails, and her perceptions of what makes her attractive. Personally, I'm against ANY fake parts, but that's just me.
Yea sometimes. Get them kinda short with kinda a french manacure kinda thing. I had then and guys liked them
my boyfriend seems to think that acrylic nails are very sexy. and most guys do too, because they make your hands look so...so...perfect

When you have acrylic nails can you bowl? If you put your finger in the bowling ball, will your acrylic nails break? How should I hold the ball?Acrylic Nails and Bowling...?
Oh my....I don't think the two will mix. You will have a devil of a time bowling properly and if you catch your nail you will end up tearing off your nail bed and you'll have a real problem. I would suggest skipping bowling if you're wearing acrylic nails.Acrylic Nails and Bowling...?
omg!! ive gone bowling with acrylic nails on and they just dont go good together!! cause the holes bent my nails and my fingers hurt sooo bad!! one of the nails snapped off and my finger started bleading like crazy..

if u have fake nails on, just do a granny shot.. lmao.
R u a prof. bowler? I think it's a bad idea. It's not guaranteed that they will break, but you have like a 85% chance that hey will. I'd do the baby bowl. (btween the legs hold with both hands and roll)
    not the best idea.........

    dump the nails and............ 'bowl'

    Acrylic nails or Gel...?

im getting my nails done next week, so.... wanted to know whats better lasting?? and how much would it cost roughly?? i dont want any art on them or gems just white tips.??Acrylic nails or Gel...?
I am a nail tech that does both acrylic and gel nails and i would definately recommend gel nails.

personally i find the best product to be bio sculpture as its all organic and doesnt harm your nails as much as other gel products and certainly alot less than acrylic.

Gels last about 2-3 weeks before you are due for an infil, although that is where acrylic is suerior in that it can last longer.

They cost around the same amount which is between 拢30-拢50 a set but newly qualified nail techs often do them at prices below 拢20!

bio sculpture also do a wide range of different colours if you ever wanted something other than a french.

Whatever you do though dont go to a chinese nail bar as they destroy your nail bed. trust me as a tech i see alot of clients with awful nails from these people!

hope i helped! :)Acrylic nails or Gel...?
Well i have acrylic nails on %26amp; i didnt get the full acrylic nail only the top part with white tips.

Mine cost 拢20 but yours might be cheaper or more money.

They look really nice so good luck :)

    x
Gel, I find acrylic to brittle and are easier to chip and snap. And acrylic smells really bad when your having them done lol!
    acrylic
Gel, i don't think they ruin your natural nail has much as acrylics do

    Removing acrylic nails??

How can I remove them at home? What is the quickest, safest and most efficient way to remove my acrylic nails?Removing acrylic nails??
If you don't want to go to a nail salon and do it at home...take one of the nails, go inbetween the real nail and the fake nail with the other fake nail and push in, then go up and down gently. This should separate the two nails. If you need to, dip ur nails in some nail polish remover (acetone) and that should soften them. Also you can wait until they grow out a alittle. If you don't care about having long nails (what I used to do) is bite the nail and that should crack the nail in the middle.Removing acrylic nails??
soaking them in nail polish remover helps to loosen the glue, but really no matter what you do it is usually painful and your real nails are destroyed underneath till they grow out.

    Good luck
Soak them in acetone. It will loosen them up, then something flat and slid it under the nail...DON';T pick the nails off, They'll ruin your nails even more.

    Removing acrylic nails?

i tried taking them off but only managed to get the tips off is it pure acetone you should use i cant really soak them in it either cos the cuticle part of them is all infectedRemoving acrylic nails?
Soak them in warm water and soap for about 7-12 minutes. Then GENTLY pry at the edges. Don't just rip them off. If they still don't come off, try the process again. If they STILL dont come off, go see a manicurist.

And next time, look at for a better brand!! Sorry about your pain.

    Good luck!!Removing acrylic nails?

Yeah you need pure acetone you can get it from boots for like 拢5.

put the acetone in a metal bowl and the metal bowl in a bigger bowl with hot water in it. Then soak your nails in there. should only take 2-3 mins,

    Hope it helps xx
pure acetone works the best, but if you can't soak them for whatever reason, you'll have to wait until they start to come off from the back (this can be very painful, so be careful, you'll be pulling multiple layers of your nail off.) Or get a dremel tool (like they have at the salon) and file them down. Honestly, I would just go to the salon, and get them taken off. They do it all the time, they can probably do it best, and the least painful.
try using some salt water first for the infected part and then try the actone
Acetone is the only safe way for your natural nails to remove acriylic. If your cuticles are infected, ideally you should try and get antibiotics to clear up the infection and then remove the nails once the infection has passed.
Yes it is Acrylic you need to soak them in, but as you say your cuticles are infected whch will make it very painful to soak them. But unfortunately that is the only way to remove them.

Have you been to the doctors about the infection?

  • Removing Acrylic Nails?

A friend of mine was in a Weddng 2 weeks ago and everyone in the Wedding party had acrylic nails done. She now wants to remove them ,without having to go back to a nail salon that is over an hour away.

Oh and there are no beauty supply stores any where close by.

Any ideas?? As I have never had acrylics so I have no idea what to tell her.Removing Acrylic Nails?
Soak nails in regular acetone nail polish remover for about 5 minutes and they should start to loosen and melt a bit. However, if I may, the nails underneath will be VERY weak, damaged and thin from the filing done to attach the acrylic. She may just want to file them down short and let them grow off her natural nails. Any nail salon will remove them for about $5.Removing Acrylic Nails?
I have had acrylics since my Prom and my fingernails have grown since then and one has broken off. Now, they aren't looking too good and I wanted to remove them. I was thinking it was acetone that I could use, but I wasn't 100% sure. I am now.

well you can go to any store and get pure acetone and soak the nails in for a few minutes and they will come off, but it will hurt...really no easy way to take them off, it is painful

    or

like to girl above said just file them down and let them come off by them selfs...
It's better to have them done at a salon, but if there isn't one close by she can take them off herself but it can seriously damage her nails.
go tolocal beauty supply store and get a bottle of pure acitone and soak the nails in a glass bowl with a towel over hands as soaking, every ten minutes pulled out and file off access acrilyc keep repeating til all acrilyc is of the nail beds, then wash hands really goo and mosturize really good
This is what I did to remove mine, but it can hurt a bit if your nails haven't lifted off by themselves very much. Cut the nails as short as possible. If you then get a nail file and push it under the acrylic nail from the back of the nail, it'll come off. It can hurt a bit if they haven't lifted much, but after two wks they should've lifted a little bit. Goodluck.
You can go to almost any drug store and but acetone. You can find it where you would find nail polish remover. Soak your nails in this and they will come off. If not you havve to wait for them to start to lift and they will fall off by themselves.

    Acrylic Nails?

I'm going to get my nails done today. I've gotten them done before, a french manicure, but this time I want to try something fun! I want to do a different colored tip instead of the traditional white tip. How do I ask for this? LOL.. Would the place I go to even do colored tips? When I asked for a french manicure they put a white fake tip on my nail and did em fast and they looked great. Would they have to carry the colored tips or would they ask me to pick a color and they paint over the white tip? haha sorry, I get nervous around people and don't want to screw up what I say D:Acrylic Nails?
Just say I want a french manicure with -insert desired color here- tips, then when they get ready to paint them they'll ask you to go pick out a color =]

    hope that helps.Acrylic Nails?
They do make colored powders for acrylic nails, but it's pretty rare for many places to carry alternative color powder's. Most technicians keep white, pink %26amp; clear on hand. (have herd the other color powders do not stay as pretty with wear)

You could call ahead and ask or just thave them polished with a wild color and maybe some hand painted designs or airbrushing.
Yes, it is true that most salons do not carry the products for this, and the majority of techs do not have the skill required to make gorgeous looking nails. Anyone can airbrush, thats easy. But to find a highly skilled tech to handcraft an individual, and unique set of nails, is hard to find though they do exist.

The possibilities are almost endless. There are glitters, mylar, colored acrylics, color drops to make a uniquely colored liquid which is really cool when used with glitter. I have those kind on right now. There are impressions that can be made in the acrylic and then covered with a layer of either colored acrylic, or a colored monomer and powder with glitter added to it that will make the impressed design stand out. There is just so very much that you can have done. But the chances of a regular salon being able to do this for you is slim to none. You have to find a tech who is skilled in this sort of thing. One place you can look is in the link that I provided. If you finds a salon on this page, call them up and ask what they do in terms of nail art. Tell them what you want. Just describe it to them, and they will tell you if they do it or not. Most of the techs/salons on this page are very good at what they do, though not all of them do this type of work but maybe they could help you to locate someone who does:

    http://www.beautytech.info/locator/index鈥?/a>

Also, here are some pics of the possible things you can have done. Remember, none of these are airbrushed, all of them are 100% handcrafted, and unique. These are some very, very highly skilled techs whose work is shown on these pages. The first one shows the work of a nail artist in Poland who has won many competitions for her work. She is beginning to compete here is the U.S. soon. No, its unlikely that you will find such skilled techs in your area, but I just wanted to show you what is possible in terms of nail art.

    Acrylic nails!!!???!!!?

okayy, im going on a trip in like about 3-4 weeks and im like getting acrylic nails done for the first time. i wanted to know wat color of tip i should get!!?? cause im getting a french manicure but a diffrent color tip!!

lol sooo let me know wat color you guys thinkk i shoud get!!

    hahahahaha thanx :)Acrylic nails!!!???!!!?
It depends, if you have a certain outfit you want to match

like for a dance or outing or something

my friend got baby pink with glittered tips, looked amazing

but if you are afraid just go with a usual french manicure

white tips, but make sure they are square and not

too long or you look like a hooker!!!!

    good luck darling =)Acrylic nails!!!???!!!?
i'd say if you could pull off the look black looks pretty cool...

or if you know you have a big event during that trip and you know what you're wearing you can get the color to match your outfit(s)

i'd say a full set of pink and whites though always looks nice

(thats when they use two different powders to make your nails look pink on the bottom and white on the tips.. not hotpink but like cute natural pink)
they're not gonna last 3-4 weeks. if they do. its best to get a natural color because your actual nail grows. if its just the tip and you're getting like clear at the bottom. then any color would look ok.
i have white tips on mine right now but before i had blue tips and they were cute=]

it really depends on you though.

neon colors are really cool and would probably look good =]
I've always like fleuro colours my self - like the pinks, oranges, blues and green - wild colours!
    Florescent Green

    Acrylic nails????????????????????????

My aunt owns a hair and nail salon in New Hartford NY. and to get a new set put on its $35.00. and to get then filled its $20.00Acrylic nails????????????????????????
It depends on where you go. Usually between $30.00 and $80.00. Most little walk in places are around $30.00 and a really nice salon would charge around $80.00
I got mine done today and they were $40 and i got black tips and my mom get white and they were the same price. Plus you usually should tip them.
Depending on Length %26amp; style. The more outrageous the still the more it costs. but usually 20 to 30 dollars.
On average, about 30 and re-fills are usually about 20 depending on where you go :) x
Well you can either get tips or the whole nail. Either way, they cost from about 30-60 bucks depending on where you go.
this girl i broke up recently used to get acrylic toenails.. they made her feet super sexified..... i paid for them once.. it was like $40..
    $25-30
    Between 拢15 - 拢30
$25, up to $40 depending on where you get them done
depends on the salon but usually like 25 and up
$25-30 dollars or other place would be cheaper
about 35 or 40 dollars, but they really do ruin your nails
    between 25-30 here in CA

    Acrylic nails...?

can someone please explain the process they do at nail salons to put acrylics on fingernails? thanks!Acrylic nails...?
Ooh, i got this done yesterday.

I usually get tips, so I'll just explain the process.

So first, they take the fake tips and find a tip that fits your finger. Once that is done, each is glued. From there, the nails are cut down to the size you'd like. Then the tips are filed and smoothed. Once that is completed, the technician usually takes this powder and liquid mix and paints your nails with it. That's what the stiff coating is when you see people with nails like that. Once the coat is dried, it's shaved smooth with that little spinny drill thing you see alot. It's not painful, don't worry. After that, your nails are painted.

    I hope that's clear lol.

    xAcrylic nails...?
they'll cut your nails if they are too long.then they have this little tool that will shave layers off your nail.theyll glue the nail and cut it the length you like.then theyll put the powder.use the machine again to smooth it.then put gel if you want it to be nice and shiny.usually like 5 more bucks then they put acetone and you run your hands in water and tada.30 minutes later or so you have nails..thats if they are plain.no special design and stuff.have fun
    1) the file/cut ur real nails.

2)they use this thing to get all the dead skin/etc off.

3)they put the fake/plastic nail on the tip of ur nail with glue.

4)then they put this powder mixed with water stuff so it stays.

    5) then they file ur nails again

    6)then they paint them. lol.

    7) then they put a top coat of clear polish.

    satisfied?
first they super glue on the nail then they cut it to the length you want it. then they use a powder mixed with acetone to fill in the space and even out your nail. then they sand down the nail to make it completely even. then they add a top coat of polish
umm i really dont noe but my aunt got sum

they look like fake nails but they are not they last much longer than the original manicure...

    hope i helped!

    good luck and god bless!
soak them in acetone (i bought a product called tips be gone from walmart) and then they pull off easily or you can go to a nail place and they can do it
I have been told that the acetone based nail polish remover works best. But I usually just pull them off.
You are right, it does have to be acetone based polish remover. Better yet, use pure acetone. Acetone is acetone, so it doesn't matter where it came from or what its labeled for as long as its pure acetone. It helps if the acetone is warm when you use it. To do this, simply place the acetone into a small bowl, and some hot water into another, slightly larger bowl filling it only partway so that it doesn't overflow. Then place the bowl containing the acetone into the bowl of hot water, and that usually will help to warm it nicely. You don't want to microwave the acetone, or place it on the stove though because acetone is flammable. Also, place a towel under the bowl because if it spills, it can easily damage the surface of many things, such as the finish on a wooden table or other furniture.

You can clip the free edge on your nail as far as you can and then using a 150, or 180 grit nail file, take down the acrylic on the surface a bit to help speed up the process. Just don't file all the way down to your natural nail as this may damage it. The object here is to remove some of the bulk of acrylic, and nothing more. Apply some hand lotion onto your cuticle area and the surrounding skin to help protect it from acetone's drying effect. Then, soak your nails for about 20-25 minutes, and then - one finger at a time, use an orange stick and gently scrape the acrylic off of your nails. If it doesn't come off all the way at first - no problem, just soak for a few more minutes and try again. I say do one finger at a time because as soon as you remove your fingers from the acetone, the acrylic will start to harden up again.

After the acrylic has been removed, wash your hands, and then apply cuticle oil to your nails, and apply hand lotion to help replace the moisture on any skin which may have come in contact with the acetone. Your nails may be a bit soft, or thin after removal of the acrylic. This is fairly common, and the softness will go away in about a day or two. In the meantime, use a good quality cutlcie oil 2-3 times a day, every day to help moisturize your cuticles, and your nails. This is turn will help to strengthen them, and keep them healthy looking. But don't stop using it after only a few days. COntinue to use cuticle oil every day, and always use hand lotion after washing your hands, and at other times throughout the day - especially in these cooler winter months. Hand lotion not only moisturizes your skin, but it helps your nails as well.

Note: If you decide to go to a salon for removal of the acrylic, do NOT let them pry, or tear the acrylic of your nails. This WILL damage your natural nails, and it will hurt a lot too! And don't let them file, or sand them off either. They will often do this kind of stuff just to save time. This is not the proper way to do it. Soaking in acetone is the only safe way to remove acrylic nails.

    Hope this helps!
No, nail polish cant remove them. But you can just buy the acetone in the store and do it your self.
You can either pull them off or soak them in nail polish remover. Or you can just go to a nail salon and they'll take them off.
    acetone
You have to use acetone nail polish remover
I think ordinary nail polish can remove them! Good Luck!

Acrylic nails are designed with staying power in mind, so removal is not as easy as just pulling them off (you can do this, but it hurts a lot and damages your nails underneath even more). To remove acrylic nails, you should ideally return to the salon that applied them and have them do it. This is the safest and easiest way. If you want to do it yourself, though, follow the steps outlined below.
i just let mine grow out and pick them off....

ive had my nails done loads of times, but they broke, im getting them done again tomorrow but was wondering, are gels better? and has any one seen any good nail art??? if so could i have the links, thank you.x.x.xAcrylic nails?
Gels are better but not much better. They just last a little longer but sometimes have the same problems of the acrylic like cracking on the sides or breakage.

Silk is the best and you won't get any breakage on the sides if you get regular fills. They cut a small piece of silk the size of your finger nail and put it on with glue. Then, they usually sprinkle some hardening powder and more glue. Everything after this is the same procedure with your buffing, and filing.Acrylic nails?

    Acrylic nails?

i had my acrylic extentions on for abt 3 months n now i had them removed... i noticed that my nails become very thin n they break easily wht should i do ?Acrylic nails?
I hear this all the time from my new clients from other salons.

It does not matter if it is gel or acrylic - the prep is the same.

It is worse if they are going to a quick-shop - usually they are damaged at these places.

It could be a few things.

    Your nail tech,even if she is a good one, might be thinning or filing the nail too much when applying fresh product. The nail only needs to be SLIGHTLY prepped. Electric files should not be used on the natural nail surface - not even '; just in the back';

Another thing is something that happens to everyone with

any type of covering on the nail plate is that you have moisture build up - and with the moisture the nail plate starts to soften- when you take the nail off it is more likely to be breakable.

How are your enhancements being removed ? If they are being pulled or bitten off - then layers of your nail are going with it and of course are going to be breaking. Only have nails removed by a professional by soaking is acetone and if necessary, filing off the excess being careful not to file the natural nail. Take care of your nails with or without enhancements on and please know that some of these quick shops say that they are putting gels on people and all they are doing is acrylics with a gel top coat - this is NOT gel at all and not even close to being the same thing.

    Good Luck !

at the salon they probably shaved off a layer (since thats how it suspposed to be done) but dont worry it should grow back just give it some time.
got to the store and buy this special nail polish. It makes your nails harder!
Im a guy and i get acrylic fingernails. What i do is get them done once a month. I wear my nails kindof long for a guy 1/2'' to 5/8'' long from the ends of my fingers.
thier is this stuff called hard nail put them over the acrylic nail and it rlly works!!!
samething happened to me. just leave the nails off for a while and let your natural nails breathe. when you go get your nails done for now on just get manicures, no more acrylic!
Me, I would never leave acrylic nails on for three months, you need to let you nails breath. So for a while don't use any nail polish, and after a couple of days use nail strengthener, it worked for me.
Your never suppose to leave acrylic nails for 3 months, just 3 weeks.... That's the reason why your names are so weak... Just let it take sometime and they will get back to normal....

    Hopefully they will good luck=]
it happens when you have them on for a while.

just keep the nails off for about a month..or till that line in your nail from your tips grow out.

    %26lt;3
your nails are probobley really thin since they just took them off i heard that the top few layors of your nail come off when the acrylic nails do. wait a few weeks or about a month and they should be thicker aagain.
You'll have to wait for them to grow. Becuase the nail is so this it can be prone to a bacterial infection. If you apply tea tree oil to your nails it will help keep away infection and keep your nail beds healthy.
never EVER get fake nails again.
The reason why this happened, is because they damage your nails- so probably the best thing to do is get a manicure, yeah- it's not always cheap for the quality, but it will help your nails! I always say, cost doesn't matter if it's for your health. Don't go buy more nail polish to fix it, they are gimmicks and usually don't work, just ask a nail professional (?) what you should do, and don't use those kinds of fake nails anymore! ;)

    Acrylic nails...?

What's the nack to getting the right consistancy to the liquid and powder balls? What should i look for? Should my brush be quite wet or better quite dry? Any tips appreciated.Acrylic nails...?
Here is a VERY useful aid for practicing acrylics. It has been used by many, many nail technicians, and continues to be used by students all the time. Best of all, it's totally free!!!

Just print it out, and cover it with plastic, and start practicing! You can cover it with Saran wrap, or a plastic notebook divider. Some people have it laminated at a store that does that sort of thing. Be creative, think up something. But, be sure to cover it with something or else you won't be able to re-use the practice sheet. Here is the link:

BTW, some people are selling this same, free practice sheet on ebay for over $7 each - how lame is that? The things some people will do for money,,,

Put your brush in your dappen dish, flatten brush in the liquid so all the bubbles come out. Wipe excess off on side of dish, dip in powder to get ball (pearlised colour) put on nail count to 3, and then form it.

should work out fine, use good products too cheap ones are what they are....cheap.

    Acrylic Nails... Which works?

Rather than using the Acrylic liquid for the acrylic powder, does acetone work as well. Because one time that i got my nails done i saw the lady dip the brush into a bottle that said acetone and they bonded well....Acrylic Nails... Which works?

    Do you prefer acrylic nails?

i used to wear them but dont anymore...Do you prefer acrylic nails?
no, they mess up your real nails sooo bad.

    Acrylic nails?

    i want them.

how often do they need refilled?

does it change your real nail when you take them off?

do they rip your underneath nail when being removed?Acrylic nails?
    Fills every 2 weeks

Your natural nail is coarsely filed to better hold the material (weakens them and makes them peel when acrylic is removed)

they do not always rip the nail. If you soak in acetone, it will loosen sufficiently to come off and leave the nail if it is not too long and too weakAcrylic nails?
ya! acrylic nails are fun and cute! I am not sure how much that they need to be refilled, but they shouldn't rip or change your real nails if they are applied the right way!
I wouldn't get them do to they weaken your real nails and they can fall off or get fungus under them. yes if you don't take them off the right way yes they mess up your nails.
they usually need a refill every 2 weeks and a good nail tech will recommend that you have them removed and a fresh set every 4-6 months. yes, they can cause your natural nails get weak however mine are junk either way and I like having nails. No, mine have not ripped when being removed my place soaks them off with Acetone.
you usually have to get them filled in about every 2 weeks,

when you take them off, your real nail is really thin

they sand your real nail done so the glue will adhere better,so my nails are ruined.i had fake ones put on for Christmas,I took them off and now there short and tearing now.ugh, don't do it,unless you have money to go every 2 weeks to have them done.you have to keep it up.
hey, well if you've been complimented on your nails before...ten there is really no reason to get them but if you want...its your choice...well i think that if you want really nice acrylic nails then go for the ones that you could find that are high definition...the ones that you could find at like a boutique or something trust me ive tryed the ones from like shoppers that are like 20$$ and they really dont work so trust me get the ones that you seem interested in and the ones maybe that youve heard some ppl talk about or that are most popular and yeah well good luck for your search on acrylic nails bye dj sparkellz...
They need to be filled every two weeks or so, depending on how fast your nails grow. when they are putting then on they file down your nail, making them thinner. So when you take them off your nails will look funny. You can buff and file them to make them look better. They won't look 100%. Your real nail can be ripped when you are removing them. If you go to a salon they have a solution to disolve the nail. However it costs the same to get them removed as to have them put on. I have always just carefully picked mine off. I have thick nails and have never had one rip thank god.

    That would hurt.

    good luck.
they are not that great for your nails, but that doesnt mean they dont look good lolz
I have had mine on for 5 years. They have to be filled every 2 weeks and when you rip them off it makes your nails underneath super thin and it hurts bad.
You need to get them filled every 2 weeks, yes it makes your nails thinner,( you can use nail thickener, and it looks like clear nailpolish), and you can get them pulled or soaked in acetone, acetone takes about 3 hours for them to be ready to take off, and when you get them pulled, it will feal like your nail will rip, but they really don't!!
    Acrylic nails;

need refilling every 2-3 weeks, depending on the job ( price you pay)

screws up your nail when you take them off ( puts dents in them )

they do tear your nail and make them short when removing.

also note; acrylics are going out of style.
