Acrylic Nails... Which works?

Rather than using the Acrylic liquid for the acrylic powder, does acetone work as well. Because one time that i got my nails done i saw the lady dip the brush into a bottle that said acetone and they bonded well....Acrylic Nails... Which works?

They're not that expensive at a salon either, usually around 20-30, depends on where you live. I get mine for £25 and i get a choice of gems/diamonds and that for free :) alot of places do that.

I believe that is up to the tech/salon to decide, not the person wanting nails. I am a nail tech, and personally, I do not put acrylics or gel nails on anyone under 16 years of age and even then it has to be done with a parents permission. I do this because there are too many legal problems that could arise if something goes wrong and the person or their parents decide to sue me. And, I know lots of other techs who feel the same way. The only exceptions that I know of are the 'discount' salons. They seem to do them on anyone. I guess they simply don't care...Acrylic nails!1 = ]] %26lt;3?

Acrylic nails painting?

hi all my mom would like to know if you paint acrylic nails does a special remover have to be used if so what is itAcrylic nails painting?
LOL I don't think so Ben Dover. Most nail techs will tell you to use NON acetone nail polish remover. I disagree! Use regular polish remover w/acetone. The reason is without the acetone it will take FOREVER to remove the polish and then you will end up with gummy feeling acrylic, thats a breakdown of acyrlic. DO NOT USE those soaker kind of polish removers jars. Just use reg remover with a cotton ball and use fast strokes, leaving enough time in between strokes for the remover to evaporate. Leaving the polish on for 2 wks when its fill time is a better idea to. Just touch up the polish if you have a matching color or apply a coat of top coat every few days to help the polish last longer.Acrylic nails painting?
make sure the polish remover is acetone free, that all... oh, and use a base coat to avoid staining the overlay :D





most polish removers are acetone free but just double check, acetone is used to remove the acrylic and isnt too good for nails

Acrylic Nails/Nailbed Question?

I have had acrylic nails on for about the past year straight. All of a sudden I've noticed that one of my nails on my left hand feels loose almost as if its coming loose from the nailbed (I can actually pull my fleshy fingertip away from my real nail a bit) Is there anything I can do to help my real nail reattach itself to my nailbed? other than just take off the acrylic and let the nail breath????Acrylic Nails/Nailbed Question?

I think a whole year with those nails might have affected your real nail therefore thats why your real nail might not be attached to your skin well. But try this things it might help. Dont put an acrylic nail on that finger until it heals. The same problem happened to my girlfriend. She let it heal on it own. It'll probably take about a month for your nail to be back to new. But its all a matter of time to heal. And keep it real clean so under it, it dont get infected. Good luck! =)
Other than taking your nails off, I would suggest to increase your daily calcium intake and or take prenatal vitamins!!
The only thing you can do is take them off and let the nail grow back. I've had that happen before too!

Acrylic Nails application - help!!?

I have just started doing an acrylic nail course and have been practising on myself...but no matter how much i file them etc you can still see the join line between my natural nail and the glued on one. Its like a white line across the middle of the nail and makes it look really fake...any suggestions as to how to fix this?

Acrylic nails again....?

alright i asked a question earlier about the acrylic nails that i had on....but i know that i definitely took of the whole acrylic overlay thing on my nail when i took them off myself. so why is there still a part on the bottom of my nail that looks like its acrylic? someone mentioned that it is called ';the trench';? can someone please help and explain what this is and what i can do?Acrylic nails again....?
You natural nails were probably filed down to rough up the surface for the acrylic to adhere to and to take off a bit so the acrylic coat wouldn't be too thick looking. The trench is leftover from this process and you just have to be patient as it grows out.





In the meantime, you can apply a ridge filler and a light pink polish to make your nails look more even and healthy. Essie's Sugar Daddy is a pretty, sheer pink that looks natural and fresh. If you don't want to wear polish, then just file and buff your nails lightly. Apply a nail oil or plain lip balm to protect them and give them a bit of sheen.

Getting a manicure introduces a lot of bacteria into your body as cuticles are cut and so on. These infections can possibly hurt the baby.inhaling fumes can also cause problems. If I were you, I'd just paint my own nails for the next few months.
it's safe to get your nails done as long as the place is well ventilated. Ask to keep the door open and to wear a mask.
With my first, I got my nails done all the time, and got them done twice with this pregnancy so far.

Gel is better, acrylic looks completely fake and only lasts like 2 weeks. Then they grow out and look nasty, and are hard to remove.

I would not. Even if you where not pregnant. I am a reflexologist and aromatherapist by profession and use to be a cosmetologist. I use to work in a hair salon that did acrylic nails. I did hair. But the toxic smell alone messed me up so bad that I had to quit that profession. As far as highlights sometimes it gets on the scalp and also the toxic fumes are very toxic to breath what to speak of the fumes in the salon. The understanding in Ayurveda and aromatherapy is that what ever goes on your skin our on your nails goes into your blood stream. The rule of thumb is, if you wouldn't eat it don't put it on your skin. Read the book Natural Cures-they don't want you to know by Kevin Trudeau. Now I only use pure organic oils on face, and body. I don't use any nail polish, because that is so toxic. I only use pure cosmetics made from natural sources and organic. Otherwise we create toxins in the body which can lead to so many illnesses including cancer. Make sure you hair products or skin products don't have any parabens and your deodorant as well. And deodorant shouldn't have any aluminum, that can give one Alzheimer's. And especially if one is pregnant the baby will get those toxins too. Protect yourself and protect your baby. Blessings to you, your family and your baby within.
I wouldn't do the nail thing because the acrylic is very strong, but I have had my hair colored 6-7 times since i'm pregnant and they said there is no problem with that, my hair dressers told me if the hair dye was harmful to the baby it would be printed on the bottles that it comes in and it's not.
I have been told both are fine. I also know women who do both as a profession and continued to work while pregnant. It will be just fine.

i have no idea about the nails but i asked my doctor a few days ago about hair dying and she said its fine as long as im in a well ventilated area:)
i would wait until the 2nd semester when most of the growing has taken place already and the baby isn't as susceptible to chemicals.


I'm not sure the nail thing would be a good idea since those places usually smell of chemicals so badly that i get immediate migraines.

I don't think there are any issues with the nails, but the problem with the highlights is this... From what I've read, it doesn't affect the baby at all, but the color might not take the right way because of the hormones. I'd check with your colorist, and of course, your doctor. Goodluck

Care for acrylic nails??

I just got acrylics put on for a wedding coming up this weekend. I'd like to consider keeping them long term and getting them refilled every 2 to 3 weeks... try putting on extra clear coat top coat i do that with mine and it helps to keep them from getting yellow i have to say if you are going to keep them long term consider a UV gel i found they stay better than acrylic or if you are staying with acrylic consider a white tip instead of airbrushing as airbrushing can turn yellow maybe mention the problem to your manicurist next time see if they can make some professional recommendations or take extra care when applying the acrylic.Care for acrylic nails??
My mom does nails. It just depends on the product.Try to get the best product you can. If you're doing nails for fun and just for a one day thing, you can get by w/getting a cheaper product. If you want to maintain nails, get Solar Nails. It also depends on how your nail technician does nails. Make sure when she files/grinds the acrylic, she gets around the edges and sides of your nails to seal them in. If not, they will come up from the sides. Don't pick at them either! If you see a side coming undone, get some super clue and put a little bit in there. It'll seal it up. If half of your nail comes undone, seal it or get it replaced. When you have cracks and don't fix them, water gets in and you can get a fungus.
Go over them with a clear top coat every couple of days, because the polish will begin to wear away with normal handwashing, bathing etc... Also, depending on how fast your nails grow have them filled AT LEAST every 2 1/2 weeks. After about 2-3 months or so, you should probably get them taken off completely and get a whole new set put on. Your manicurist will suggest this when it is time. When they begin to lift, you risk fungus and infections so a new set is a must when they beigin to lift too much.

If you are having problems keeping them on, You may have oily nail beds,You will have to tell your nail teck, and see what they have to say.
I always had problems when I got acrylic nails. My nail bed is very flat and my actual nail kind of curves up on the ends so my nail problems are terrible.





If you have good nails why not just get your nails painted and buffed every couple of weeks
thats not an abnormal problem to have. I have been wearing acrylic nails for years and every once in a while I get that problem but they fix it when you go to get a fill in. If you wanna fix it yourself, all you have to do is use a dab of nail glue, that's all they are going to do at the salon anyway.
You've already gotten a lot of good advice, but I'm going to throw in one more tip for you...





Oil your nails!! A drop or two of a cuticle/nail oil a couple times a day (personally, I use Solar Oil deom Creative) makes a world of difference. It also keeps your cuticles nice and soft.
Wear gloves when washing dishes, or using cleansers. If your nails are wet alot (besides normal washing of hands) can contribute to nail fungus.





DO NOT USE ACETONE nail polish remover! That will ';melt'; your acrylics.





Try not to use your nails as tools because that can weaken the bond between the plastic and your natural nail.

Pink and White are sculpted nails, meaning no tip is put on with glue or anything. They are formed out of acrylic only. White acrylic for the tip and pink for your base and over lay. The are alot better for you nails because you are not putting glue on the natural nails. They are more expensive then tips and take longer to do, but the last longer and are better for the natural nail. About the orange thing, Try a top coat with UV protection in it. Alot of nail salons clam they put that on the nails before they put you under the dryer, One way you can tell is if your nails are under a black light or tanning bed bulb they have a lite purple to a blue tint to them. If they just glow it is not a top coat with UVprotection in it. Maybe this will help.
Don't get acrylics! I've had mine done many times and I regret it! My nails are super thin because they like thin the nail bed down! But if you insist on getting them the pink and white look like a french manicure and a regular is just a solid color(then you decide what color you want your nails to be like red or whatever). The last time I got mine done they put UV blocking stuff on to protect them from when I'd go tanning. Just ask them if they have stuff they can put on to protect them. But if your doing like spray on tanning I have no idea how you can protect them. Hope this kind of helped!
Pink and white is another term for a french manicure. The tips will be white and the acrylic part will be tinted pink. They're my favorite. If you're concerned about your nails turning color, it is not a bad idea to wear nail polish on them. They do make UV protectant clear nail polish. You can find it at a specialized beauty store like Sally's.
The nails come white. You can leave them white or you can paint a pink color over them (or any other color you like). That's just color nothing to do with the acrylic. Acrylic is a little more expensive but will leave the nails stronger. I've gotten both and prefer acrylic. I prefer pink color most of the time but sometimes I just leave them plain with a clear coat. I've never had a problem with them turning orange from tanning so I can't answer that. If you have natural nails just get a manicure. In my case I can not grow natural nails so I get them fake.
the pink and the white are just the different colors of acrylic for the base. the white just looks really chalky. the pink is more of a flesh-color tone. For your acrylics not to yellow in the tanning bed, it all has to do with the quality of the product that is being used. The more you pay, the less likely it will yellow. No offense to Asian-owned parlors, but the bulk (ahem... all) that I've been to, they use cheaper acrylic so the likleyhood of them yellowing is higher. If you go to a real salon/spa (not just a cheap nail shop), they will use a higher quality acrylic to cause less yellowing. Also, if you opt for the cheaper way, just make sure that you put some clear polish over the finished product to keep them from yellowing, too. I've never had my nails turn orange from tanning.... I think that is probably from the tanning lotions that you are using. Of course, I'm half black and have only been tanning like 4 times in my entire life, so I can't give you good feedback on that.





After getting my nails done for about a year, I stopped. I got a couple of bad fungal infections from the acrylics and my nails got brittle and ripped easily. My nails now look better than any acrylic shop out there. I keep clear polish on them all of the time, file them regularly to the shape I want. They look great. Nothing really beats a great manicure on your natural nails.

acrylics wreck your nails no matter what people say they will damage them, absolutely do the worst damage. they stay on the best and look great but the damage sucks i couldnt handle it anymore i cried when they were off because my nails were so weak they were like bruised.

Definately gel. I have been an acrylic girl since about 5th grade (quite a while ago lol) the last few times though I have gotten the gel and absolutely love it, they dry much faster, look shinier longer and they seem to last longer as well, the few extra bucks are worth it :)

hahahaha dont be scared at all. yeah, it hurts a little bit but trust me, you will LOVE them once you get them on. and it doesnt even hurt that much. all they do is paint a bunch of like chemicals on ur nails(it might sound painful but its not. i swear.) the only thing that 'hurts' about them is that they are a little sore after the first time you get them put on. getting fills and stuff doesnt hurt AT ALL.Im Getting Acrylic nails ...?
It does hurt abit but i had mine done when i was 9 and it wasnt that bad the only bits that hurt is when they file your nails and push your cuticles back bu they are really good if you are in the UK go to Hollywood Nails if our in Gateshead/Newcastle somewhere near there in the UK go to Hollywood Nails in the Gallaries they dont hurt that much and are reall pretty and easy to do things with so dont listen to people saying it really bady hurts just getyour finger nail and push your cuticles back thats what it feels like so its not that bad and obv you know what it feels like to have your nails filed x
Nails don't hurt, it's the technicians that cause pain. If a salon uses a metal drill bit on your natural nail, don't let them. Run away as fast as you can. It's the lazy way to do it. Yes the nail needs to be free of dirt and oils but it only needs to be lightly filed. This is the main reason for having permanent damage done to your nails. Sometimes when removing the acrylic nails, the drill can get warm on the nail if it's left on the same spot. Don't go to a cheap place, and you'll have good service! Good luck and enjoy your nails!
If your not used to having them, they will make your fingers sore, but its not bad... Just a bit uncomfortalbe...Its just from the vibration of the drill they use to file your nail and all the acivity that your finger tips aren't used to...





After you get used to the immediate length, the next day you'll be perfectly fine and back to normal

Get acrylic nails over gel because gel causes more damage. If the gel is on your nails for too long and has too much sun exposure it will damage you nails. Acrylic is better but when you are ready to get them off get them taken off at a salon because if you take them off yourself it will ruin your nails and if you get them off not filled depending on how long you have had them for you should probably get a manicure because your nails get a little weak.Gel or Acrylic Nails?
I used to get acrylic nails, and honestly, they ruin your natural nails, they cut them really short and they become thin and brittle, and it takes awhile for them to get back to normal....so I'd go for a regular manicure, it'll save your nails in the long run, you can ask for a french manicure, it looks really nice. =)

i get mine done at a salon (yes, the owners are asian) that does both acrylics and gels...but i always get acrylics. They do thin your nails, but they fix themselves in a month or 2 once you have them removed. DO NOT take them off yourself, unless you want more damage. i usually have mine on for a month before i need a fill...or removal. I paid $27 the last time i went in.

put vaseline on your fingertips and nails and soak the fingers in the acetone for about 20 mins.


they should come off after that.

Mix clear apple cider vinegar with an equal amount of water (straight vinegar works as well) Soak the affected fingers a couple times a day for 5 minutes or more. The vinegar soak is good for your cuticles and a good preventive medicine so you may soak all your nails whether they are affected or not with no harm to your artificial nails. Once the bacteria or fungus infection clears up you should continue the soaks if you are prone to these infections


If the infection is a true fungal infection (which is different than what is listed above) this normally requires a doctors care... however the vinegar soaks combined with one or two over the counter fungal remedies may do the trick. Fake or acrylic nails are not very good for you natural nails. They make your real nails very brittle and can sometimes get fungus or mold. Nail fungus or mold can be caused by a variety of things, mostly water and moisture getting under the nail. You need to take your nails off and let them breathe. You should get a buffing pad and smooth the nail out on the top so it can grown properly. You can buy nail vitamin lotion at the stores that you just rub on your nail beds to help them grow. don't panic. go to any local drugstore and get a fungal cream for toenails. it will work the same and should clear it all up within a few days. while you're doing that make sure you keep the nail extra clean and throughly wash your hands and get something to scrub under your nails.

Buff your nails, Make sure they are clean ( no little dirt particles in them) In a bowl mix one cup and a half of lemon juice ( from freshly squeezed lemons) half a cup of water and half a table spoon of milk. They hurt the first and second day, then the pain goes away. They do look nice and pretty. Try to get the correct size for your hands and fingers so it doesn't look ridiculous and like they over did it. If you're not gonna have fills done after 2 or 3 weeks, take them at the same place you got them done, don't do it yourself because it hurts, and you are gonna do a nasty job. They charge less then $5 to take them off.
I've only done them once in my life and never in my life will i do em again.


i personally don't recommend them due to the fact that it makes your real nail thinner and weaker... also they hurt when you barely put them on.
Dont get them done. They ruin your nails when your ready to take them off! They seriously mess your nails up! Just get a manicure instead.

Buy ACETONE nail polish remover, plenty of it. Pour it in a bowl and soak them. Once they are soft, use an orange stick to push them off. Acetone disintegrates the acrylic. :)

You know those tools they use at the salon? Maybe you can find one at a beauty supply store. BTW, I have the same problem right now...only I'm not pregnant, LOL. I have 3 acrylics on one hand and 4 on the other...slowly trying to work them off.
Buy some acetone (either pure or made for nail removal) from the drug store. You can buy some Sally Hansen Artificial nail remover if you prefer.





Let your nails soak for 5 mins, the fakes will start to turn gunky, scrape that layer off. Soak again and scrape. Repeat. May take up to an hour, depends on how good the acetone is. But its cheap and painless!

You can soak your nails in pure acetone nail polish, but im not sure if thats unhealthy for your baby. I just took mine off a few weeks ago, and they came off easy enough like that. Just soak them for a while.
I remove my own all the time. It's pretty time consuming, but it also takes a good while in the salon. There are a few tricks that work:





1. Get some acetone based nailpolish remover, pour some in a small bowl and soak the fingertips of each hand one at a time for at least 5 minutes. This will help loosen the nails so you don't do as much damage to your natural nails underneath. Some drugstores even have a special remover just for acrylic nails. It's a solvent in a jar and there is a brush inside. You insert each finger and move the nail against the brush in the solvent and that helps loosen them. They cost about 5 bucks.





2. The last time I had mine removed in a salon, and this is a New York centric way, the manicurist used an old metro card to get them off. In case you're not in NYC, the metro card is our pass that gets us onto public transportation. It's very thin and she inserted a corner of the card under the acrylic where it was growing out and it came off quiet well. I've also used a sewing pin or needle to pry them up in this manner but you could easily stick yourself this way.





3. Get one or two coarse filing blocks from the drug store or beauty supply and just file them off. This will do far less damage to your own nails than pulling them off.





Don't be shocked if your own nails continue to break and peel after you get the acrylic off. They will do this until you grow a full new set of nails and the part that was weakend by the acrylic is gone. to help strengthen your nails (and help with hair growth) get some biotin from the health food store and take one a day (ask you doctor if it's ok first).

Go buy some acetone, it's only like $1 and be sure you are in a well ventilated area (especially since you are preggers) pour some in a glass bowl and soak your nails a bit.

I use my nails, but I'm gentle. Use drop some eye drops (the ones for contacts) before so they can come out easily.
Use the pads of your forefinger and thumb. Try to keep your fingers as flat as possible, and take care not to scratch your eyes. Good luck!

They don't fall off that often. Sometimes they do, but if they grind your nails good enough when they put them on you, the acrylic will stick better and they wont fall off that often. But, they will hurt for a day oor two after you get them put on but not too bad. It hurts much more when they take them off you. But like the other girl said, its better than pulling them off yourself. Just go to wherever you had the done at and let them take them off. It only takes about 10 minutes or so, but it will hurt for a few days after they do it. But thats just part of having acrylic nails. You can have them filled, or you can just get a new set each time you go. At some salons they give you a new set every time instead of filling them which makes them look really good. But the acrylic really damages your nails a lot. Best to just keep having them done once you have them done the first time so you won't have to worry about how your real nails look since they will be covered anyway.
acrylic nails don't just fall off. They are permantly attached to your real nails until they grow out or you have them removed, which is a horrible process %26amp; I don't recommend trying it yourself. If you want them off, go back to where you had them put on %26amp; have them take them off, but your real nails will still end up in terrible shape.





When I had them done, they looked pretty good for about 2-3 weeks, except for they needed polishing again. You can have them filled in if you want them to last longer than that.
They rarely fall off because they're bonded to your real nail, but you will have to go back every 2 1/2 to 3 weeks for a fill in and to have them filed down.





And when you're tired of them you can have them taken off at the salon. It's way better than picking them off yourself because it causes a lot of damage to your real nail.

If you want to continue to have acrylic nails after this first application, you should go back to the nail salon within 2 - 3 weeks for what they call a ';fill';. They will remove any part of the acrylic that is loose and reapply new acrylic to make them look brand new again. So you would go back to the salon about every 2-3 weeks. While caring for them, you will find they will stay on better if you don't use your hands alot in warm water (for example, use gloves if you're doing the dishes).





If you decide you don't want to keep your acrylic nails, you should wait at least 3 weeks and see if some of the nails can easily come off. If they don't you should go to the salon and they will soak your nails in a solution and remove them. It will be easier and less painful than removing them yourself. Then you can have a manicure too and they will make them look nice without the acrylic.





After removing acrylic nails, you will find that your nails will not be exactly ';normal'; looking, because they had to file the surface of your nail for the acrylic to stick. Also there may be a slight ';yellow'; tint to your nails. This will take several weeks to grow out. But don't worry, they will eventually go back to normal.

You don't really have to do much to take care of them, just don't bite.


In about 2 weeks your real nails are going to start growing out, and at the point you can either go to the salon and get a fill (which is when they put more acrylic on the part of the nail that grew out, and file them down) or you can go to the salon and have them take them off for you if you don't want to do it yourself since it can leave the nails pretty ugly looking if you do it.
The only way to get them off is they grow out, just keep them clean AND DO NOT BITE THEM.


Biggest mistake I did with mine, it wreaked them so a bit them off lol, don't do that.


You can get re-fills, but in the long run you end up spending a bit, so when they start to grow out trim them, badly grow out not just a little bit a nail showing, when there is about a 1cm.


After they come off your nails will be very thin, rough and long because you can't trim your real nails while you have acrylics, so trim them and put some nail harder on them, they, your nails will be rough until you grow a whole new nail plate, while growing you'll have a bump because you will have a thin rough plate and a think hard new one but it goes away once the new nail completly grows back, enjoy your acrylic nails while you can!
You need them refilled every 2 weeks, you cant pull them off you need to go back and have them soaked off. they last as long as your nail grows, then you have to go back for infills.

Acrylic nails on toes is just wrong. I don't think they look good on anyone. If your toe nails are messed up then I guess that's all you can do. If not go for your natural nails. It looks better in the long run and you don't have the issue of messing up your nails when you take them off.

no you wont end up losing your nail.... what i suggest to my clients that are loyal acrylic wearers is for them to remove them for a couple of months so that the natural nail can get some air and breath.... then reapply them after a 2 month period that will give your nails time to readjust to having nothing on them and strengthen back up prior to having them reapplied....long term wear of any enhancement will weaken the nailsAcrylic Nails....?
I have had acrylic nails for the past 11 years. I have been going to one of the ';cheaper'; salons for most of that time. It's not the salon or the price you pay - it's the tech. Get one who has lots of experience and know's what they are doing - you should have no problem.
the acrylic itself is not damaging to your nails at all. the damaging part is the fact that the cheap nail salons use drills and take off so much of your real nail to make the fake ones stay on. it gets damaging when the nail plate( the hard part) is being drilled off every two weeks.. some clients come to be with almost holes in their nails becuase of improper applications. if you want acrylics, (which i have on right now) do NOT go to one of the cheap salons where a full set is only like 25 dollars. go to a real salon, pay the extra money, and keep your nails intact
i still wonder why so many people believe that acrylic is so harmful. it's not much more harmful than getting gel nails. it always depends on how good the nail tech is and which productlines he/she uses. the longer you're having your nails done, the thinner your own nail gets. Mostly it's because of the filing of your natural nail and the glue to put on the artificial tip. you won't lose your nails.

To remove acrylic nails, the ideal situation would be to return to the salon which applied them.


Next best -try any salon which does nails.


Least preferable method to do this yourself, you will need :


-acetone - pure, acetone is best to dissolve the acrylic


-coarse and fine nail files


-a shallow dish or bowl ( only use glass or hard plastic - acetone can dissolve paint, and some plastics, so be careful)


-moisturizer


-somewhere to wash and dry hands


-maybe a nail brush





You can also but a remover which comes in a jar that you stick your hand into, though i find it uncomfortable... ( Sally Hansen)





You will need to soak the nails in acetone for quite awhile...


10-20 minutes probably... most of the acrylic will get soft and dissolve into the acetone. you will need to gently brush it off maybe with a nail brush or fingers...





If there are resistant pieces of acrylic sticking to nails, carefully file them off. do not pry them off as this will damage your nails underneath.





When acrylic is off, wash and dry hands, moisturize ( acetone dries skin), and then wipe off the moisturizer on nails and apply a nail strengthener, 2 coats. Let dry. Remoisturize cuticles.





If you soak long enough the acrylics come off, and does not damage nails too much - most of the damage was done when applying as they had to rough up the surface of each nail so acrylic would adhere.

Your best bet is to go the shop/salon where you get them filled in and get the nails soaked off in acetone.


Don't pick, pull, lift, or try to take them off yourself unless you are soaking them in acetone. You can damage your nail and it will take MONTHS to heal and return to normal.


If you do it at home, take some marbles(yes marbles) and heat them in a small pot on the stove until they are warm. Get a glass bowl(not metal!) and put the marbles in the bottom of the bowl. Add the acetone slowly into the bowl and soak your nails this way. Stir your fingertips into this and give it time for the acetone to melt away the acrylic. It may take some time, but it's better than damaging your nails.
Acetone kind of ';melts'; them off. but your nails will be very thin and and soft. You will need to keep clear polish on them at all times until they get used to the oxygen again and get thicker! I don't know of any better way. Acrylic nails are terrible for natural nails.
buy special remover for acrylic nails. you can get it at any place like Wal-Mart. it will take a long time, but that is the best way to not damage your nails.

Personlly i have had them they are wonderful to have on the application doesnt hurt it jst when you take thwm off it hurts if you dont do it right....O and about the $$$ earn your own and really their not really expensive at MOdel nails, princess nails, or super nails!!??

I live in TX. I got acrylic tips (because I wanted a very natural look) and it was about $28. But then the acrylic grows out in about 3 weeks, and you need to come in for a touch up, about $14 for as long as you keep your nails.





I loved having my nails, they were super hard to break or chip. But I got tired of the constant upkeep, so I'm trying to see if I can't keep my own nails. They split and peel easily, so I'm filing any little snags immediately. We'll see.

Acetone will definitely work to eat away the acrylic. You should really clip them down to the length of your real nail underneath before hand, though... The acetone takes a while to work, and there's no point in soaking a portion that you can just cut off!

If you have tips put on (to make the nails look long), they cut down your nails. If you already have long nails, you can get an acrylic coat on top (to make them hard and unbreakable). I guess you are getting tips put on if you have short nails - so unless you bite your nails past the quick or something, you are a perfect candidate. If you do bite your nails, you should wait until your nails are at the quick to get the tips put on, and that will keep infection out.

I have never had this problem before and have been wearing these type nails for 15 or more years. Yesterday I had my nails done at one of the cheap ';Vietnamese'; salons. After the tech applied the acrylic and began using the drill to file, smooth, and buff my nails, they burned like they were on fire the entire time. It did not stop util the tech got completely finished with the process. They are not hurting or sore now and they do not burn anymore. What caused this and is this normal? well. not all ';vietnamese'; as you put it are cheap.. you`ll never know.. some other race might own it too... but i know what is your problem is.. 1. since you have been getting acrylic for so long.. you might have encounter thin nails underneath that acrylic.. to keep healthy nails.. you would sometimes need to let it ';breath';. i know that its hard to let your beautiful nail go.. but sometimes you would have to make sacraface..because everytime you get it redone.. they would have to drill it some so the acrylic can hold. 2. they had put too much primer on it... did u notice that everytime you get refills.. they would drill it out then apply a wet coat of primer on where it needs to be filled.. primer is not a bad thing.. it destroys all the bacteria around your nails and nail's bed.. its not because of hard buffing or filing... its because of thin nails and primer... my advice.. go somewhere else.... just go to a place where there are bright areas clean looking and a full set cost more than 20. and also pedicures costs more than 25$ hehe...Acrylic Nails?

There is not supposed to be any pain involved when getting acrylics done. You shouldn't go back to that place, or any cheap place for that matter. Any place who's acrylics cost $20 and less are probably using harmful chemicals that will inevitabely kill your nails in the long run. Having had your nails done for 15+ years, I'm sure you know what I am talking about--so I'm not going to waste time explaining something you probably know very well. i have had that b4 i hate it i think it has something to do with the glue stuff getting on the skin at the tip of ur nail and the vibrations from the drill file yanking at the skin im not sure tho just a guess
I have been getting my nails done for years and have encountered burning as well and found every time this happens they are 1) not paying totally attention, 2) not focused, or 3) filing or buffing too fast! Thais isn't healthy or pleasant for you nor your nails. I would definitely bring the problem to their knowledge. I do not feel the inexpensive way to go is always the wrong way because 9 of 10 times vendors usually boost their price up to make an profit as well. (overly charging) In the end it is really up to you to make sure you get the full benefit by making sure your health isn't taken for granted as requested by health regulations.
Get your nails done a recamended salon because I have gotten my nails done but did you know thats its bad for the nail? it makes then thiner and unhealthy. I say try to grow out your nails and get tips put on but not to long!

i have been working as nail technician for 4 years and also worked in another nail shop and saw customers there that had them on for 12 and 15 years! the problem is that now everybody learns how to do nails in a 5 day seminar witch is totally NOTHING! it took me 6 month intensive work to reach a point that i was able to understand completly what i should and should'nt do! how is the correct filling method etc.


2 things matter in order to have a good job done:


the first is that you find a very good technician that cares first about the natural nail and know her job well.


And second you need to check the products she is using!!! very important... i've seen horrible products that ';melt'; the the nail in a 3 months period, others are very toxic etc.

it's a little expensive for me as a technician but I feel so safe to use it almost everywhere. I've used o.p.i gels on a fungus nai and my client kept doing her fungus treatment and now has great nails. I took them off from the clients that had it 10 years and more and the condition of their nails was the same as before in just two days( the one had thin nails before and said they were the same again and the other one had very strong nails but wanted gel because she liked the shape. she admitted that she was amazed that her nails were in the same condition. she expected worse).... another thing you should know is that the only place the nail breathes is behind the so called moon... at the back of your nails. that part shouldn't be filled with gel. so yes the nails are still breathing!!! when you use good products and know your job there's nothing to worry about.... when you take them off after a long period of time they just need a couple of days and they are back to normal. Yes they leave a chip mark in Ur nail but that should come off after u use regular nail polish I know I've used it before.
i got them done a week ago, and i'm going to the store today to get the stuff that takes them off. i HATE them. they get in the way of my typing, makeup, hair, etc. i had to re-learn how to do everything. i still can't open a can of soda.
Yes they mess up your nails when you put them on but when you take them off it just exposes the wea have to use acetone to take them offk and brittle part of your nails because they drill your nails down a layer or two and you but the longer you keep them on does not make them worse it does nothing to your nails cuz the damage is already done the only this is how many times you get them you should wait untl your nails grow back out and get strong again before you get them done again

Yes for a short period of time. When they are taken off, layers of nail bed are taken off with them making them very thin. It is important to keep them very short while the nail bed grows back out and repairs itself.

Soak in a nail polish that contains Acetone, look in the ingredients on the side of the bottle. When you see them softening, gently peel them away. If they're still not budging, continue to soak them. It takes a little patience but this is the best way. buy a nailpolish remover that HAS acetone. the one you have is probably NON acetone, so just buy a new one that has it. soak them in that for a while (it took me like an hour) and they'll slowly start coming off. i went to the salon once to get mine removed, and i paid 20 dollars for a soak in acetone ( which i can do myself for much cheaper)

i just got my acrylics done and they were fine for a couple of days, but i recently noticed little air bubbles around the edges. my aunt told me you could get them by coming in contact with water alot. they dont look very nice or polishd right now but i dont want to remove them either. any suggestions tomake them look better?Acrylic nails?
the bubbling around the edges is when the file down the nails they aren't getting all of the little acrylic filings off of the nails before they seal it with the liquid acrylic. this happened to me, and rather than do anything i painted my nails thinking it would be okay - MISTAKE! not only did the acrylics have to be removed, but i had to have a small hole drilled into one of my nails because of the pressure the nail fungus caused - so my advise- go back to where you go them from and GET THEM OFF. a nail fungus is very serious and very common in the little shops where they do a 'mass production' of the nails. so please- if you don't remove them - be very careful.Acrylic nails?
go back to where you got them . They should not be lifting at all. And be carful because you can easily get a nail fungus!
True, you should go back to where you got them, but just to get your money back. Then go somewhere else. In the meantime, you can get a white buffing block at most drug or discount stores. They are made for artificial nails, and can at least smooth the surface and prepare it for a new coat of polish. Make sure you remove the old polish with ACETONE-FREE polish remover, as acetone will eat the acrylic and cause a real mess. And no, water will not make acrylic nails bubble. Take the warning about fungus seriously, it can be hard to get rid of.

acrylic nails are fake nails that go over your own nails stuck on by a special kind of glue. you can get them in different colours with patterns on them too! but some people have found that if they rip off it rips off the real nail with it too because the glue they use in the salon is so strong which is very painful!

what happens is the nail tech will put a fake nail on your real nail and then use acrylic to cover the nail. the acrylic is a powder and they use water to smooth it out. within seconds it gets hard


they look nice at first but you have to keep up with them. and if you cant when they get loose and fall off your natural nails will be turn up, yellow looking and horrible
I would think about having them done. They ruined my nails and made them very weak for a long time. It took months for my nails to go back to there original condition.
Hey,you pretty much know all about acrylic nails right now so i won't even explain that bit. What I want to tell you though is that gel tips are much better- they let your nails grow healthy and strong so after having them glued on 2 times, you won't need extensions anymore. These tips(overlays) are glued only at the white tip of your nail, buffed so that u don't have any bumps then gel is brushed over the whole nail and then you put your nails under a uv lamp. This is done 2 or three times to ensure your natural nails are well covered and protected and the tips won't fall off. Once dry, a clear(or pink tinged) vanish is brushed over your nails, depending on the type of french manicure you want(I would recommend the clear varnish because it gives you a clean, crisp, classy look). Expect the white tip to be wider than you're used to- but this is how the french actually do it so....


You van have em for two weeks, and if you want to redo them, go back to the salon:after two or three refills, your natural nails will have grown longer and strong enough so you can do them without extensions
Basically, you go to a nail salon, and they buff your nails and everything, glue some tips on at the end of your nails, then use this special glue thing with a brush, making the tip look like its part of your actual nail, and making your nails look thicker, then usual do a french mani. by painting on with a light pink nail varnish and airbrushing on the white tip, you can choose to get refills, as once your nail starts to grow, there will be a distinctive gap between when you got the nail done and your real nail growing, but the refill will close that gap, however they do cost money.





a word of warning though, they leave your nails in terrible condition, as I took mine off last night and my nails look a state and are very weak!!

I have acrylic nails but they're not really suitable unless you're prepared for the upkeep, ie going to get your infills done every 2-3 weeks coz they really do wreck your nails when they come off.





If you only want them for a one off, save yourself a loada cash and buy some glue-on fake nails from Boots for less than a tenner

basicly they stick a plastic nail on ur nail then paste layers of acrylic on top to make it stay on.

you could try having silk nail extensions done instead as they dont damage your nails as much. they cost just a little bit more but look just as good and in my opinion are less fake looking.

Acrylic nails are basicly false nails made from acrylic. Acrylic is very hard and most people get false nails made from acrylic if they bite there nails alot. Acrylic is very hard to bite. You can get all sorts of paterns and colors and are very good. But taking them off is quite painful but not that much. It can take up to 1 hour to put them on and up to an hour taking them off. Go into your nearest salon and ask to have acrylic nails. What will happen is you will go and sit down at your normall manicure station and the lady will bring out a diplay case or booklet with all different designs. You then choose what you want and don't be afraid to say if you want them a bit shorter! because they can make them VERY long! Then the lady-or man? will begin preparing your nails. All the basics- filling buffing ect. Then she will begin to apply the glue and then finally put the nails on. To top it all off she will place each hand under a fan for like 5 mins to make sure the glue is bone dry. Acrylic nails can last normally for 2-3months depending on how you look after them. The salon will tell you how to. It can cost around $30 or $20 depending on which salon yu go to. The pricest ive come across it $60. I wouldnt recommend them if your only using them for prom or if you want just a kinda not to long and not to short manicure. Remember getting an at home kit and doing them with your friends is just as fun!

Acrylic nails are beautiful, I agree. If all else fails grow your nails out, fake nails from the grocery store, look like fake nails from the grocery store, and everyone will know. Besides in the long run fake ones will cost more to keep replacing. Save up your money to about 25 dollers, and then go to her, and tell her the situation. Make her understand that you could pay for it, and that you would feel better with them. She will understand, and make sure not to raise your voice.

Acrylics can last a while, like over a month but usually I would get a fill in 2 weeks. It depends on how fast your nails grow and how much you can spend getting them filled all the time, also personal preference if it bothers you to see that empty space of new naked nail. They are much more easier on the nail, they don't harm them as much as the acrylic, although they do tend to lift easier. I had those fake nails one time for my brothers wedding....Let me tell you, I will never do that again. Once you get them you will have to keep going back to the salon to maintain them. If you try to pull them off, your finger nails will have ridges on them for a year or more.Plus fungus grows under your nails. They are beautiful and sexy but not worth it ...to me...
u can get them even if ur nails r 1 tenth of and inch short, but the one at the mall r so flippen' cheap

I am getting acrylic nails?

i am getting acrylic nails in a few weeks and i want acrylic nails with airbrushed white tip.


can anyone post me a picture or tell me the steps on how they are going to do it and how the end result will look.I am getting acrylic nails?
They will use a dremel like tool to rough up your nail bed and then apply fake nails over the tip of your natural nail. The tips are quite long and they will trim them to the length you are comfortable with. After that they will use a powder mixed with something (I've never asked what it was) to fill in the difference between your natural nail and the fake tip. More dremel tool action to blend it all together and shape the tip... a coat of clear polish and you are good to go. One caveat: make sure you want these- they are a bear to remove and your natural nails will be sad looking for about a month after the fake ones are removed. (mine are always really weak after fake nails)I am getting acrylic nails?
All I have to say is think long and hard about getting acrylics put on....Im 23 and Ive been through painful acrylic nail removal twice. I WILL NEVER EVER GET THE PUT ON EVER AGAIN,





a. They are expensive to maintain: only look ';perfect'; for about a week, and definitely need to be filled in about every 3 weeks.





b. They prohibit you from doing certain things with your hands, youll never want to open another soda can ever again for fear of brreaking one





c. When you want them removed, BEWARE! I though I was being smart by making an appointment for the nail studio to remove them when I needed them off for surgery, and they destroyed my nails! Blood every where as they chipped off the acrylic with a nail clipper piece by piece. I had disgustingly uncomfortable thin nails for months from the monthly filing to fill in tips. I had bumpy nails for about a year until the whole thing grew out.











Manacures, in my opinion, are more affordable and logical.

Acrylic nails with resin powder are very hard to do, they don't look naturel and hurt when they break if you want extentions why not go for tips?

No but they will look horrible when they do come off. I would just buy lots of nail hardener and grow them out, then go to the nail salon and have them paint or airbrush your real nails, when people ask and you can tell them they are your real nails they will be impressed.If i get acrylic nails........?
The acrylic nails actually damage the real nails if you buy the hardener that has formaldehyde in it that is the best. The higher the concentrate of the formaldehyde the better. You used to could buy it straight over the counter but you can't anymore. People were using it to poison people formaldehyde is actually em-bombing fluid.
If you wear them very long and get one stuck in something it's possible to rip a nail off. My wife does her own and wears them 3/4'; - 1'; long and they look awesome. If you are going to wear them continuously they'll need maintenance/fill every 2 to 3 weeks. My wife does hers every two weeks and never has any problems. Her job requires her to keyboard a lot...she types with the tips of her nails. It's a magical thing to watch...she's fast! Start out shorter and don't use them as tools. Your own nails will look a bit rough if you decide to remove the acrylic. Buff and polish them until they grow back out.
they could fall off if you try too pull them off right after you get them done. but if you just let them fall off by themselves they won't fall off.
No but they will be very thin and somewhat frail when the acrylics come off because they file them down so much before then put the acrylics on. But they'll grow out normal.
