Yes. Solar nails ARE acrylic nails. It is simply a term used by what I call 'discount' salons to describe Pink %26amp; Whites (Permanent French nails) Unfortunately, this has led to some confusion. Many of these salons use the term Solar Nails to give people the impresion that they are some kind of new, and better nail which is not acrylic, but something better than that. This is totally false. I have had this discussion a few times with other nail techs, and we have come to our own conclusion as to why discount salons use the term in the way that they do. And it goes like this: Permanent French acrylic nails have been around for a long time now. American salons have been doing them for years. Although it can mean using a white tip to achieve the 'french' look, and coating the tip with clear acrylic to give it stability and support, it usually means using a white acrylic powder to 'sculpt' the extension onto your nail, and using a nail brush to shape the 'smile line.'
Technically speaking. the real SolarNail term belongs to a company called Creative Nail Design. The SolarNail product line was first introduced by CND back in the late1970's. Though SolarNail powders are still available today, the company had recently ceased production of their SolarNail liquid monomer.
Just my theory, but there you have it. Take it for what its worth.
BTW, if you are allergic to acrylic nails, then have you tried gel nails? That works in most cases for people who have problems with acrylic, such as allergies to the chemicals. You might want to give them a try. But remember, gel nails are made from? You guessed it, gels. They are NEVER a powder. If the tech uses ANY liquid and powder on your nails, you are getting acrylic nails, and not gel nails - no matter what they tell you, they are acrylic nails. Real, top of the line nail gel looks just like this:
