I have some questions about acrylic nails...?

Okay, so my best friend got her nails done with acrylics for prom, and said that she wants to keep getting them done, and we were thinking we would go and do it together...But, I have a few questions, but first here is some information I know and have.

There's a salon (not one of the japanese mall ones,)that we would go to...I've already checked it out, it has a very good reputation.

I know that there is a difference between glue on and acrylic nails....

I know not to rip them off, when I want them off.

And um, thats about it...

I'd like to know everything about them....EVERYTHING...

So um yeah.I have some questions about acrylic nails...?
First, make sure that whoever you choose uses sterilized equipment. Don't want you getting a nasty fungal infection. I'm guessing that you're getting tips. That's when they glue the nail to the tip of your nail and fill in the gaps with an acrylic filling. If this is what you're getting it's very easy to take care of. All you have to do is, then your nails start going out go back to the salon and have them ';filled';. All they're going to do is, add more of the acyclic filling in to the gaps and re-polish them. You can change your polish as often as you like. If this is you first time I would let them do it for you. It doesn't cost that much for them to refill or to change the polish. When you want them removed just tell them that you would like them taken off. They'll then soak your nails in acetone to soften them to be removed. Hope I helped.I have some questions about acrylic nails...?

Well, acrylics, they dont hurt.

You should go get fill in's every 2 weeks.

Get the short until you get used to long nails, because the shorter they are, the easier they are to work with.

EDIT:: To me it seems like you know alot about them already.
Acrylic nails are good for maintaining your nails when you want them to look better or more sophisticated, but try not to get them too long in length because it can be difficult to do things like pick up change, take out contacts, etc. (unless you like the long), the person doing your nails will ask you how long you want them, and if you want them square or oval. Most girls your age wear them square which is the look you've probably seen.

Glue on nails are ok, if you only want the nails to be on for a short period of time like maybe 5-10 days and if you aren't looking to spend 20 bucks

for a full set of acrylic nails it can range anywhere between 20-30 dollars depending on where you go and most women get them redone after 2 weeks when your natural nail underneath starts to show at the bottom, but you can go longer than that

It is important to make sure if you get your nails ';refilled'; after the 2 weeks if you plan on keeping them longer you eventually get them taken off to give your natural nails a break. If you keep nails on for too long like months and months at a time without replacing them or giving them a break you run the risk of getting a fungus infection on your nail(s)

Also, sometimes acrylics can BREAK. If that happens you can always go to a nail salon to get the nail replaced witha new one and its usually a small fee of 3-5 dollars, but some may do it for free.

Keep in mind too that your natural nails will become weaker as a result of the acrylic nails esp. if you keep them on longer. They may be more sensitive, thinner and break easier, so be careful.

But all in all, acrylics make for a good look and look nice, especially for a special occasion like prom :)
